Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19 1946) is an American actress, singer-songwriter, philanthropist, and businesswoman who is most famous for her contributions to the field of country music. After having achieved success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly, that led to success over the remainder of the 1960s (both as a solo artist and through a series of duet album with Porter Wagoner), before her peak sales and chart position began in the 1970s, and continued through the 1980s. The albums she released in the 1990s did not sell as well, but she rediscovered commercial success during the new millennium. She has released albums on various independent labels since 2000, including her own label, Dolly Records. Parton has sold more than 100 million albums around the globe. Her music has been approved by the Recording Industry Association of America, (RIAA), as platinum, gold and multi-platinum. She has had 25 tracks get to No. 1 on the Billboard country music charts an all-time record for a female singer (tied with Reba McEntire).
