Jewel Kilcher, born May 23 1974 was an American singer-songwriter and actress. Her birth date was May 23, 1974, in Homer, Alaska. Her father is an active local musician. At the age of 15, she received a partial scholarship at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan where she was a student of operatic voice. After graduating, she began writing and performing at bars and cafes in San Diego, California. In response to local media attention, she was given a recording contract with Atlantic Records, which released her debut album, Pieces of You, in 1995. The album went on to become one of the top-selling debut albums of all time, going 12 times platinum. The album's first single album, "Who Will Save Your Soul" reached eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 and two others, "You Were Meant for Me" and "Foolish Games" made it to number two on the Hot 100, and were included on the year-end 1997 Billboard singles chart, as well in the year-end singles chart.Her next album, Spirit, was released in 1998. It was followed by This Way (2001).
