joe namath

Joseph William Namath (pronounced 'neIm@thor NAY-meth) was a famous American football player. He played for 13 seasons in the American Football League and National Football League (NFL), primarily with New York Jets. He played college football at Alabama, where he won the national championship as a senior and was selected by the Jets first overall in the 1965 AFL Draft. During his five AFL seasons He was a two-time MVP, and twice was the league's top passer yards. He also led the Jets to win an AFL championship and one Super Bowl. Both of these victories are the Jets' only championships. After the merger of the AFL and NFL in 1970, Namath joined the NFL with the Jets and was the NFL's touchdowns and passing yards leading player during the 1972 season. Namath remained for seven seasons with New York, his last year being spent with the Los Angeles Rams. Namath's legacy was cemented in 1969 when he ensured his team, which was a minuscule Jets took home Super Bowl III. They defeated the NFL's Baltimore Colts in a remarkable sports-related shock. The Super Bowl victory was the first time for an AFL franchise.
