Matthew Burton Brown (born January 10 1981) is an American mixed martial artist fighting in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Professionally competing since 2004 Brown was a contestant in the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter television series and holds the record for the most knockouts in UFC Welterweight history.Brown was born and was raised in Jamestown, Ohio. After being home-schooled for two years, Brown enrolled in Greeneview High School where he struggled to make friends. Being in a small town , with no prospects beyond a low paying factory job as a machinist Brown was discontent and turned to drugs and alcohol. For a period that lasted for a while, he was dependent on meth, regularly used cocaine and would often get into fights at gatherings. When he was in his early 20s, Brown had suffered an overdose of heroin (which resulted in his nickname "The Immortal"), was homeless, and been in prison. Brown was interested in MMA after he began to practice submission holds while drinking. He had seen Ken Shamrock's VHS tapes of friends and was compelled to pursue MMA.
