Selena Quintanilla

 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lena kinta'nija'peres; April 16, 1971 - March 31, 1995), known mononymously as Selena was an American Tejano singer. Her contribution to fashion and music led to her being the "Queen" of Tejano music. Selena is among the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers of late 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her third on their list of the "Greatest Latino Artists" basing their selection on Latin albums and Latin chart of songs. Many media outlets referred to her as the Tejano Madonna for her clothes choices. Also, she is the top-ranked Latin artist, and has been credited with helping to bring the Tejano music genre into mainstream society. The youngest of the Selena y Los Dinos (which also included her siblings A.B. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. Her reputation was often questioned in the 1980s and refused bookings at Texas venues due to her performances of Tejano music, which was a male-dominated genre. The public flocked to her when she received the Tejano Music Award for Female voice of the year in 1987. She was awarded it nine times consecutively. She signed with EMI Latin in 1989 and made her debut album self-titled the same year, while her brother became her main music producer and songwriter.
