Taraji Penda Henson (/t@'ra:dZi/ t@-RAH-jee; born September 11, 1970) is an American actress. After studying acting at Howard University, she began her Hollywood career as a guest on various television shows. She made her acting debut with Baby Boy (2001). The role she played was a prostitute on Hustle & Flow (2005), for which she received an Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor Cast in a Motion Picture nomination. She also played the single mother of a disabled child in David Fincher's Case of Benjamin Button (2008) which for which she received Academy Award, SAG Award and Critics Choice Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress. She was in Date Night in 2010 and she also co-starred in the remake of The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. In 2011, she starred in the Lifetime Television film Taken from Me The Tiffany Rubin Story,
