Virginia Gayle Madsen (born September 11 in 1961) is an American actor and film producer. Her debut film was Class (1983) that she filmed in Chicago. David Lynch, the director of the science-fiction film Dune (1984) was the director who made her the Princess Irulan after she moved to Los Angeles. Madsen was then featured in a string of teen films that were successful, including Electric Dreams (1984), Modern Girls (1986), and Fire with Fire (1986).Madsen received further recognition for her starring role as Helen Lyle in the horror film Candyman (1992). Madsen received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Alexander Payne's comedy-drama Sideways (2004).
