She was in 1996 when she was named Miss Universe and became the fourth Venezuelan woman to receive the title. Machado was also awarded the title as Miss Yaracuy 1995 and Miss Venezuela 1995. She was an actress and starred as Diana Rodriguez in the television series El Pantera in 2007. Machado starred as Karen in the TV series Hasta que el dinero nos separe in 2009. In 2015, she played Claudia in the series Unforgiveable. The year 2006 was the time she included on the Mexican Playboy edition cover and the only Miss Universe to appear nude.
