America's Store (AS) began in 1988 under the name of Home Shopping Club Overnight Service, which aired on broadcast stations across the US between midnight and 9 AM and, in particular the New York metropolitan area on WWOR-TV from 3 am until 6 am in the New York City metro area. The year 1989 saw HSN acquired a few television stations that had low power, and started the operation all day long under the name of Home Shopping SPREE. The title of the channel was again changed in 1997 to American's Jewelry Store, to reflect the change to sell only jewellery. After an insignificant amount of results with this version, HSN expanded the inventory to include all kinds of categories and dropped the word "jewelry" from its title. AS became part of the DirecTV line-up in 2003. The stations that HSN had low power were located in all major metropolises, including the World Trade Center. Competitor QVC was a spin-off channel called "Q2" for just two years from 1994 to 1996. After Barry Diller's departure from QVC as well as the acquisition of HSN through his own company, HSN purchased Q2 and employees from Q2 were transferred into HSN.
