Amanda Tapping (born 28 August 1965) is a British-Canadian actor and director. She is most famous for her role as Samantha Carter in the Canadian-American military science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis as well as Stargate Universe. She was also the star of the science-fiction fantasy TV series Sanctuary. North Toronto Collegiate Institute was where she excelled in drama and environmental science. When she graduated in 1984, Tapping decided to concentrate her studies in drama and went to the University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts. Tapping was featured in a variety of television commercials and also played a variety of parts in TV and film productions, including The Outer Limits. In the early 1990s she also co-founded the comedy group "Random Acts" along with Anne Marie Kerr and Katherine Jackson.
