Earl Simmons (December 18, 1970 - April 9, 2021), known professionally as DMX (short for "Dark Man X"), was an American rapper and actor. He started his rap career in the mid 1990s, and made his debut album It's Dark and Hell is Hot in 1998, to critical acclaim and commercial success, selling 251,000 copies in the first week of release. In 1999, DMX released... and Then There Was X. It included the hit song "Party Up (Up here)". "Where is the Hood At?" and "Stay in Here" were his top singles of 2003. Commercially, his 2003 singles "Where the Hood is at?" and "X Gon"Give It to Ya" were also very success. He was the first artist in history to launch an album at No.1 on the Billboard 200 charts five times consecutively. DMX has sold over 74 million records all over the world. He was a part of the reality TV series DMX, Soul of a Man. It was aired by the BET cable television network. He wrote E.A.R.L., his memoirs in 2003. The Autobiography of DMX.
