Edward Lodewijk Van Halen (/vaen 'heIl@n/ van HAY-l@n, Dutch: ['etvart 'lo:d@veik fan 'ha:l@(n)[January 26, 1955 - October 6 (October 6, 2020)) was an American musician and song writer. He was the keyboardist and guitarist of Van Halen's rock group. His mother was an Indo (Eurasian) woman who was from the island of Rangkasbitung in the Dutch East Indies. His father was a Dutch clarinettist and jazz pianist. His mother was Indo (Eurasian), from Rangkasbitung in the Dutch East Indies. The family relocated to Nijmegen in 1962, after they were snubbed because of their mixed race. They settled with other family members in Pasadena, California, where Eddie and his brother Alex were enrolled in a segregated elementary school.
