Jewel

Jewel Kilcher (born May 23 1974) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and writer. She was born May 23, 1974 in Homer, Alaska. Her father is an active local musician. She was fifteen years old when she received partial scholarships to the Interlochen Arts Academy, Michigan. The school was where she learned operatic voice. She began to perform in coffeehouses and clubs in San Diego after she graduated from high school. Based on local media attention, she was offered a recording contract with Atlantic Records, which released her debut album, Pieces of You, in 1995; it went on to become one of the most successful debut albums ever, and went 12-times platinum. "Who Will Save Your Soul" is the first single, peaked at 11 in the Billboard Hot 100. Two other singles, "You Were Meant For Me" and "Foolish Games" also reached the top two on the Billboard Hot 100. They were included on the Billboard 1998 year-end singles charts. This Way (2001) was her next album. In 2003, she released 0304, which marked a departure from her earlier folk-oriented albums with electronic arrangements and elements of dance-pop.
