Jonathan Dwight Jones (born July 19 1987) is an American mixed martial artist who has been accepted into the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He competes in the lightweight division. Jones is a past UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He held the title from March through April 2015. The title was held from December 2018 until August 2020. Jones was also the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion interim in 2016. In 2016 Jones held the interim UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Jones was also implicated in several controversy. Jones lost his title three times as a result of discipline actions. After being arrested in 2015 on felony hit and run charges, Jones was stripped of his title. He was later exiled from the UFC's official rankings. His subsequent returns to the UFC in 2016 and 2017 saw him win victorious in title bouts against Ovince Saint Preux and Daniel Cormier, but were both cut short by Jones having a positive test for banned substances and receiving further suspensions. The latter reversed to a 'no contest'. Jones took home the title in 2018 by beating Alexander Gustafsson after his 2017 suspension was lifted. In 2020, Jones had to quit the title due to an argument with White. Jones also announced his intention to rise to heavyweight.
