Margaret Yvonne Middleton (September 1, 1922 - January 8 2007) was professionally known as Yvonne De Carlo, was a Canadian-American actress, dancer and singer. She was a Hollywood film star during the 1940s and 50s and recorded several films, and later appeared on the television screen and stage.Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, De Carlo was enrolled by her mother in an area dance academy when she was three. In the 1940s, De Carlo and her mother relocated to Los Angeles. De Carlo was a contestant in beauty contests, and was dancing in nightclubs. She began working on motion pictures in 1941 with short-form subjects. In the Soundies musical that she performed in, she sang "The Lamp of Memory". She signed a contract for three years with Paramount Pictures in 1942. There she was given small parts in important films. Her first role was with independent producer E. B. Derr in the James Fenimore Cooper adventure Deerslayer in 1943.She obtained her breakthrough performance in Salome, Where She Danced (1945) in a Universal Pictures release produced by Walter Wanger, who described her as "the most beautiful woman on the planet." She became a star following the film's success and publicity. Universal signed her to a five year contract.
