Nas

Network-attached Storage (NAS) is the level of file storage, in contrast to block-level storage, computer data storage server that is connected to an internet-connected computer network that allows access to data to a heterogeneous client group. The term "NAS" can be used to describe both the technology involved or a specialized device designed for such functionality. It is commonly manufactured as a computer appliance, a purpose-built specialized machine. Networked appliances are those with one or more storage drives, usually arranged into an logical, redundant storage container or RAID. Network-attached storage lets you access files via network file sharing protocols such as NFS, SMB or AFP. From the mid-1990s, NAS devices began gaining popularity as a method of sharing files among many computers, as well as to remove the responsibility of providing file services from other servers within the network. By doing this it is possible to use a NAS can offer more data access, less administration, and easier setup, as opposed to using a general-purpose servers to serve files.
