Magic Johnson

Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr., a former American professional basketball player was born August 14, 1959. Johnson was the most renowned point guard of all time and played for 13 seasons for the National Basketball Association (NBA). Johnson was a champion in high school and in college. Johnson was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers first in the 1979 NBA draft. Johnson led the team to five NBA championships during the Showtime period. Johnson quit abruptly in the year 1991, after announcing that he had contracted HIV, but returned to participate in the 1992 All-Star Game, winning the All-Star MVP Award. After being protested by his teammates, Johnson resigned again in 1991. But he returned to the Lakers in 1996, aged 36 and won the All-Star MVP Award. He was the league's top scorer in assists during the regular season four times and was the NBA's leader all-time in the average number of assists per game during both the regular season (11.19 assists per game) and in the playoffs (12.35 assists per game).
