Gilpin was born Peri Oldham in Waco, Texas to James Franklin Oldham (and Sandra Jo Hauck). The couple divorced, and her mother married again to Allen W Gilpin Jr., in 1969. Peri was then given her stepfather's surname.Gilpin grew up in Dallas, where her family supported her talents as an actor. After attending the Dallas Theater Center, she was able to pursue acting studies at the University of Texas at Austin and the British-American Academy in London. After becoming a professional actor and a professional actor, she was given the name Peri Gilpin. Her birthfather Jim was a Philadelphia weatherman who later became a radio DJ . He also went by his stage name Jim O'Brien. On the 25th of September of 1983, he died killed in a crash while skydiving.
