 Shakira Isabel Mebarak Rill (/S@’kI@sh@-KEER-@ Spanish: [(t?)Sa’kira]; was born on February 2 1977. Born and raised in Barranquilla She has been referred to as the "Queen of Latin Music"and is praised for her musical versatility.She made her recording debut in the studio of Sony Music Colombia at the age of 13. After the failure to sell her debut two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993) She became a household name in Hispanic countries through her subsequent albums: Pies Descalzos (1995) and Donde Estan los Ladrones? (1998). The fifth album she released, Laundry Service (2001) is her first entry into the English-language market. It was a huge success, selling more than 13 million copies across the world. The worldwide success of her singles "Whenever, Wherever" & "Underneath Your Clothes" helped to establish her position as a top artist in the crossover market. Broadcast Music, Inc. called Shakira a "pioneer" that extended the reach of Latino performers from around the globe. The Spanish album Fijacion Oral, Vol. El Dorado (2017), Sale el Sol (2010) and 1 (2005) all of which topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums charts and were certified as diamonds (Latin by the Recording Industry Association of America. Additionally, her English albums Oral Fixation, Vol.
