James Francis Cameron CC, born August 16, 1954 is a Canadian filmmaker. He is known for making epic and science fiction films, and first gained recognition for his work in writing and directing The Terminator (1984). Cameron achieved further success through Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and the action comedy True Lies (1994). He also directed and wrote Titanic (1997) as well as Avatar (2009), with Titanic getting him Academy Awards in Best Picture as well as Best Director, and Best Editing of Film. Avatar that was shot in 3D technology, won him nominations for the same categories. In addition to filmmaking, he's also a National Geographic sea explorer and has made numerous documentaries about the subject, such as Ghosts of the Abyss (2003) and Aliens of the Deep (2005). Cameron has helped develop underwater filming as well as remote vehicle technology and has created the digital 3D Fusion Camera System. Cameron was the first person to alone descend into the Mariana Trench in 2012 using the Deepsea Challenger submarine.
