Lynda Jean Cordova Carter (born July 24 1951) is an American performer, actress, and beauty pageant titleholder who was named Miss World USA 1972 and placed in the top 15 at the Miss World 1972 pageant.Carter is best known as the star of the live-action television show Wonder Woman as she played the role of Diana Prince / Wonder Woman. The show was based on the DC Comics character with the same name. The show aired from 1975 until 1979 on ABC, then later on CBS.Carter attended Arizona State University. She dropped out of college to pursue a career as a musician after being named "Most talented". In 1970, Carter auditioned and then performed on the road together with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first concert in concert was held at the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco, which was so new it didn't have a sidewalk entrance. They played mostly to hotel guests as well as staff members who drove their cars underground. The Garfin Gathering toured the Nevada "Silver Circuit", playing shows in a variety of casinos in the state between Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Reno, and Las Vegas. Carter was forced to leave the Garfin Gathering to pursue acting in 1972. He then returned to Arizona.
