John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (born 3 December 1948) is an English musician, singer, and television personality. Osbourne gained fame in the 1970s as the lead singer of the heavy metal group Black Sabbath, during which time he earned the nickname "Prince of Darkness".Osbourne was dismissed from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to alcohol and drug problems, but went on to enjoy an impressive solo career. He recorded thirteen studio albums, including the first seven of which earned multi-platinum awards in the US. Osbourne has been reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions. Osbourne was back with Black Sabbath in the year 1997, and also assisted in the recording of 13 (2013). The band was then on a goodbye tour, which ended in the February 2017 show in Birmingham. His longevity and success earned him the informal designation "Godfather of Metal".Osbourne's album sales total from his years in Black Sabbath, combined with his solo career, total over 100 million. He was admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the lead singer of Black Sabbath and into the UK Music Hall of Fame as a solo artist and as part of the band. He was honored with stars on the Birmingham Walk of Stars and Hollywood Walk of Fame.
