Phil

The Greek root -phil- comes from the Greek word which means "love". Philosophy, which is originated from the Greek root phil- meaning "love" is the study of human customs as well as the significance of human life. One of the most frequent uses of the root philis to refer to philias.A philia is the love or fascination with a specific object or topic. The suffix -philia can be used to describe the love or obsession with something specific. It's a little like -phobia. Philias may be biological (e.g. Rhizophilia is a desire to live off roots) or even chemical (e.g. Chromophilous are substances that stain easily) or could be a hobby/liking. Icthyophilia or love for fish)Philia (TSyKHy) as an Greek word that means love, refers to brotherly love, which includes the bonds of friendship and affection. This is in contrast to the Greek terms Eros or sexual/romantic love, and the word agape, which is detached, spiritual love. English usage can differ from the etymological meanings. Many of these words are used in English to refer to sexual attraction, not brotherly love.
