Serena Jameka Williams, born September 26, 1981, is an American professional tennis player. Williams was the world's number. 1 tennis player and is widely considered to be one of the top. The women's Tennis Association (WTA), put her as No. 1 singles player for 319 consecutive weeks. This included a record 186 consecutive weeks. She also was the number one player of the year. 1 five times. Her parents Oracene and Richard Williams coached her. She was awarded 23 Grand Slam singles titles. This is the most she has ever won in Open Era. After turning professional in 1995 she won her first singles major title at the 1999 US Open. From the 2002 French Open to the 2003 Australian Open, she was unbeatable and won the four major singles titles (each time over Venus in the final) to win an uncalendar year Grand Slam and the career Grand Slam, known as the 'Serena Slam'. The following few years saw her take home two more singles majors however, she was plagued by injuries and declining form. In 2007 she started to recover her fitness, despite ongoing injuries. 1 singles ranking.
